It’s an important part of the process as it helps us to see if you are the right person for the job, but it’s also a useful chance for you to make sure that our charity and the specific job are the right fit for you. Here’s a few things for you to consider as you prepare to begin the interview process with us:

Before your interview

  • Ensure you research our charity and the job description as much as possible. This will allow you to tailor your questions to fit the role needs.
  • Make sure you arrive at your interview at least 5 minutes early. If the interview is face to face, plan your journey beforehand. If the interview is via video call, ensure you have tested the connection so you can join the interview smoothly.
  • Prepare some answers to some common questions such as “Tell me about yourself” or “Why do you want to work here?”
  • Prepare some questions that you can ask the interviewer. For example, “What opportunities are there for training with the company?”
  • Dress smartly and turn your phone off to avoid interruptions.

During the interview

  • Greet the interviewer with a smile and confidently.
  • Be polite and use the right language and tone for the interview.
  • Ask the interviewer to repeat or explain a question further if you are unsure.
  • Take your time and answer the question to the best of your ability including examples and experiences you may have.
  • Be honest throughout the interview process; if you don’t meet all the job specifications, say so but think about how you might be able to gain that skill or experience.
  • Ask questions when you are given the opportunity to so you have all the information you would like regarding the role. Please disclose any holidays you have booked.
  • At the end of the interview, thank the interviewer for their time and tell them you’re looking forward to hearing from them.

After the interview

  • When you leave the interview, try to reflect on some of the answers you provided. If you feel you left anything out or have further questions, do not hesitate to contact the interviewer or the recruitment team.
